All information you need for a green house.

Green Roofs

Into the green trends contagious spirit that infected everyone today, will add a subsection on the list of things you can do to transform your home into “environmentally friendly” temple. So after the race to find the most efficient CFL’s, to turn off equipment when is not in use and save about all that can be, you can consider for your home or any other type of building, planning a “green roof ” … whatever, ecological.

What does such a roof? In short, adding an extension made of several layers that allow the development of vegetation on the building. Specifically, the insulation is placed over a support which is applied over an impermeable layer. Next will be a portion for water drainage, then a filter, to reach the final table of earth where they grow plants. Initially, they used the common ground, which is why a large amount was necessary, therefore, a large mass that strain roof’s resistance. However, development of such green space requires extra pressure and expert advice should be sought to install, but the systems are becoming more efficient: now uses a rich land, of which there is no need to apply a layer so thick. Depending on the thickness, “green roofs” fall into two categories: those 50-100 + mm, which require more attentive care and a greater investment, or 25-100mm, more superficial, not allow development of a as large number of plants.

Green roofs are not new. The legendary hanging gardens of Babylon had the same principle, and in Africa have been used for hundreds of years to maintain low temperature in their homes of earth. From this they found all the benefits they bring: reduced demanded energy since they keep cool in buildings in summer and heat – in winter, insulate the sound (even the thinnest layer, can reduce noise by 40 decibels), filter pollution, increase the life of the roof, protecting it from extreme temperatures and provides shelter different animals (yeah, you can grow even goats).

In fact, these benefits are recognized in some countries: in Germany, for example, builders are required to fit the roof so any new buildings to offset the green space that has disappeared due to site, more State grants and subsidies.

A city with grassy roofs seems futuristic, but probably the best compromise to save the air in big cities, considering the chaotic way in which infrastructure has evolved.
