The Green House

All information you need for a green house.

Is Your Beauty Routine Hurting the Environment

Most skincare products and cosmetics have a negative impact on the environment, so it’s important to find ways to prevent pollution to help preserve the environment. In order to so, you have to take small actions steps and the first step would be to learn what are the health hazards of cosmetics and skin care rituals. Find out if your beauty routine has the power to damage the environment below.

Plastic waste

You may probably already know this, but plastic is the main enemy of the environment. It’s responsible for polluting water sources and it’s considered to be an environmental hazard. Plastic is non non-biodegradable it takes several years to decompose, even hundreds of years. It is therefore important to avoid buying products that are deposited in plastic containers. However, this is impossible because almost all cosmetics are stored in plastic containers. Instead, look for cosmetics that have an eco packaging concept.

Product testing

There are plenty of cosmetics and skin care products available on the market and most of them contain synthetic ingredients. The synthetic substances are tested on animals so that cosmetic manufactures learn which ingredients are safe to use and avoid those which can cause allergic reactions. Unfortunately, almost 40,000 animals die each year because of animal testings and many animals who survive can end up with severe burns or irritants on their skin which can be very painful. Consider opting for products that contain all natural ingredients because they don’t need to be tested on animals.

Hair care and styling tools

Are you the type of person who can’t leave the house without using styling tools to straighten or curl the hair? Then avoid using these electronic devices not so regularly because they have a direct impact on the environment. Avoid using your flat iron on a regular basis or at least, opt for one of the top flat irons that use less energy. This way, you’ll manage to lower your energy bills and help fight pollution. The top flat irons of the moment don’t just protect the environment, but they also protect your hair from heat damage.

Microscopic particles

Microscopic particles are found in sunscreens, exfoliating body scrubs and even in toothpaste. These nanoparticles can have a serious impact upon the environment and are responsible for disturbing the ecosystem. After using a product that contains plastic microparticles, the particles get washed down the drains and end up in several water sources: rivers, lakes and streams. As a result, the marine environment is severally polluted so it’s very important to avoid using skincare products that contain microparticles and opt for homemade exfoliating body scrubs that contain only natural and herbal ingredients.
