Organic Farming Definition

The organic farming definition implies the use of complete, balanced ecological agricultural fundamentals. These organic agricultural principles involve crop rotation, soil fertility, and pest control achieved in a natural manner. Although it may seem as an evasive concept at first sight, the basic principle for organic farming is in fact rather simple: we just need to allow nature to run its course and to do its best, and that is to grow, to evolve.

The organic farming definition involves the understanding of the methods and principles required to establish an agricultural system designed to provide you, the consumer, fresh, tasty and authentic foods which at the same time respect the natural life cycle of the systems.

In order to achieve this, the organic farming definition sets out, as we previously mentioned, a number of objectives and principles on which it is based, as well as good practices created to minimize human impact on the environment, while making sure that the agricultural system operates as naturally as possible.

The specific organic farming practices that are employed include:

  • Crop rotation as a premise for the efficient use of the resources on the farm.
  • Very strict limits regarding the use of chemical synthetic pesticides and chemical fertilizers, antibiotics for animals, food additives and other complementary substances used for the processing of agricultural products
  • Forbidding the use of genetically modified organisms
  • Harnessing resources that exist on-site, such as the use of manure that comes from animals as fertilizer and of feeds produced on the farm
  • Choosing species of plants and animals resistant to diseases and pests, adapted to local conditions
  • Raising animals in freedom and in open shelters and feeding them with organic fodders
  • Using animal husbandry practices suitable for each race, separately

The organic farming trend, which began to make itself known among people in 2000, is nowadays a mainstream lifestyle for a part of the population of the planet. It has become a good and rather large business. So, the organic farming definition includes the definition and identification of organic foods and fibers.

Many of the products used on a regular basis (daily) can be produced on organic farms. Among these products, we mention: vegetables, meat, dairy, grains, eggs and fibers such as cotton, and other types of natural fiber. The organic quality of these products is given by how faithful they remain top their natural state. In order to grow organic goods, farmers do not use on their crops  synthetic pesticides or fertilizers, synthetic hormones or antibiotics, they totally dismiss medications when raising their animals. Animals are fed only with natural feeds and are permitted to stay outdoors.
