Paper recycling – the benefits of such a small change

In the last few years, humankind started using so much paper that the waste is tremendous. The paper consumption has later increased by 400%. Compared to the last 40 years, paper is being used in large quantities, big part of these quantities being represented by waste. In some countries, the phenomenon of deforestation started to appear. Approximately 35% of the trees that were cut across the world are used only to produce paper. There are certain places where paper production grows, and the forest area remains untouched. Finland is one of the main papermakers of the entire world, with over 11 million tons of paper produced per year, through a rigorous forestry program. They are able to preserve their forest areas through paper recycling and management. Read more about this topic by accessing http://www.delmarvashredding.com/.

How does the process work?

The first thing that people think about when they hear paper waste is how could recycling help with not cutting down so many trees. Well, the process of recycling paper is a long journey. It first starts on gathering the paper stored in a local collection station. While it was collected in one single place, specialists will separate and bundle every type of paper based on their composition. Newsprint, for instance, will be recycled separately from cardboard or other types of paper found in the collection stations.

Each bundle is then sent to a recycling center, where paper is going to be tossed in a pulper – a device which separates paper fiber bonds. The chemicals used in the pulper will then create a watery fiber mixture, called paper pulp. This last mixture is going to be filtered out, to make sure no chunks of dirt or glue remained in the composition. This is done by using certain cleaning chemicals. The pulp will be later de-inked using a chemical solution and a blowing technique. Finally, this mixture is bleached entirely and spread onto wide screens that are going to completely dry it off. The material goes through heated pressers and paper is rolled up and sent to cutting. While the process is over, it is ready to be packaged and shipped away. Recycling paper takes less resources and less energy as a process compared to creating paper from scratch.

What else you can do?

Paper recycling is not the only way you can help out nature. Electricity is another factor which causes lots and lots of energy waste. For instance, many families store food and drink in their refrigerators without actually needing it. Not many people know about the tremendous benefits of purchasing and using energy saving light bulbs or qualified appliances. A small change could lead to saving millions of acres of trees. Going green is the answer for saving nature. If each and every one would make a change in their lifestyle, things would be different in a few years from now on. Inform yourself about this topic and maybe you’ll let yourself convinced it is the right choice.
