Remote Light Switch Technology – The New Standard

The way in which technology for controlling the essential conveniences and various functions around the home has progressed over recent years is nothing less than extraordinary. It wasn’t very long ago that the whole world was truly “wowed” by the idea of the standard dimmer switch. Being able to control the brightness of any exterior or interior lights was something that truly hit home with the majority of people and has become a standard feature in countless homes ever since.

As for what is next for the universe of home lighting technology, along with huge leaps forward in the production and design of energy-saving lighting fixtures, we’re also moving toward an era of completely revolutionised lighting controls. It is one thing to have the standard dimmers and switches installed, but how about the opportunity to not only automate every element of exterior and interior lighting alike, but also being able to control things from anywhere in the world?

Smart Home Technology

At the moment, it could come across as something both superfluous and unusual to many, but slowly this type of technology is taking over. Already in the cases of homes with sophisticated contemporary interior lighting, it is far from unusual for even complex lighting systems be automated for better convenience. The need for any type of manual control is totally negated by the use of technology – the same is also happening to the home’s interiors.

In terms of making the most of interior lighting and at the same time minimising energy consumption, there is no such thing as having too much control over each of the lighting features and installations. Instead of it being an instance of “all on or all off”, more consumers than ever before are embracing the type of technology that makes it possible all lighting fixtures to be controlled independently. And naturally, the appeal of being able to control all interior and exterior lighting by a convenient device located right in your hands asks for little explanation.

One of the great aspects of these systems and their applications is the way they allow you to design and save set schedules or themes for each day of the month. If for example you know you will not be home at a certain time, it is totally possible to set the system to switch on and off certain lights at specific times in order to give the impression that the home is occupied – a useful home security boost. Likewise, it is also completely possible to set programs to make sure no interior lights are left on between specific times, when all occupants might be out and the security concern minimised.

It is simply a case of taking full control of the lighting systems in your home and creating the kind of pre-sets that will allow you to focus on more interesting or important things.

Anytime, Anywhere

What is also great about these systems is that when used via a connected tablet or smartphone, they could be used from basically anywhere in the world. The value and appeal of being able to control a variety of household devices from remote locations might not be evident on the surface, but it’s really there.

Once again from a security perspective, having access to lighting controls when you’re away from home could be invaluable to say the least. What is more, it is perfectly possible to set up alarm systems whereby an alert will be triggered to a device if the lights back home are used unexpectedly – again, boosting security. And naturally, the appeal of never having to worry during any trip or holiday that you forgot to turn all the lights off prior to leaving speaks for itself.

Already, this type of technology is being used to monitor and control everything from exterior and interior lighting to home thermostats to CCTV systems and burglar alarms and so much more – all from the standard tablet or smartphone you carry in your pocket. More and more leading brands are joining the race to participate in the “Internet of things”, so while it might all sound a little far-fetched, it will become the new standard before you know it.
