The Most Ecological Appliances on the Market

Although the most ecological appliances on the market are also the most expensive, you will actually save money in the long run. According to the US Department of Energy, the appliances we choose are responsible for 17% of the energy load in a typical US home. Choosing eco products can have a visible impact on your energy costs and carbon footprint. Think of it this way: is it the same thing if you pay a little more now or a little more each day for the next 10-20 years? In reality, eco appliances are cheap.

  • Ownership price

When you go shopping for new appliances, make sure you look at the price tags with an open mind. In reality, most appliances on the market have two price tags: the purchase price, a tiny fraction of the real cost and the cost of the energy used every day of the useful life of that product. The useful life for a refrigerator is 14 years (on average) and 10 years for a dishwasher. Of course, if you search for Bosch dishwasher reviews some users will report that their machine broke down after 15 years, so make sure you choose a trusted brand. Even if you only pay once for your appliance, energy costs are continually climbing so the cost of ownership will be increasing as well.

  • Labeling

The most ecological appliances on the market are Energy Star rated and the best of them even exceed these ratings. Energy Star certified products will save you money and protect the environment at the same time. Although the Energy Star program has been criticized, it is still a viable indicator of eco-consciousness manufacturers who pay attention to energy performance. Another thing you must look for is the yellow EnergyGuide labels which indicate the most efficient model. Moreover, it will give you data on annual costs.

Use this data to compare various brands and model to determine which the most ecological appliances on the market are. Because the indexed price is sometimes different from your true energy price, run a search on Bosch dishwasher reviews, for example, and see if there are any complaints regarding water and energy consumption. You can also pay a visit on the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (ACEEE) website before making any purchase decisions.

  • What too choose?

Before you head out to buy appliances, you need to decide whether you want electric, gas or induction stove, a high-efficiency washing machine or Energy Star rated appliances. If you live alone, consider dishwasher drawers which are perfect for running small loads every day. If you really need a drier you should know that this is one of the largest consumers of power in most households, so make sure it is Energy Rated. An induction cooktop may also be a good idea. It is the perfect addition for a bustling kitchen because the method of heating releases less heat while allowing water to boil faster. The refrigerator is the second heavier consumer in most households because it runs 365 days a year, so opt for an Energy Star model.
