This is how you can be an eco-friendly pet owner

Can you be an eco-friendly pet owner? Absolutely! This article will tell you how you can do it.

Pets bring nothing but unconditional love and joy to our lives, yet, research suggests that they can have quite a significant ecological impact. Luckily, with only a few simple and sustainable tips, you can help reduce your pet’s impact on our environment.

Adopt don’t shop

If you don’t already own a pet or you’d like to get another one, please don’t turn to a breeder but adopt a rescue animal instead. By adopting instead of buying, you can help reduce the environmental demands of overpopulation.

Every city all around the world has at least one animal rescue center where you can find the perfect pet for you. Plus, we promise that adopted pets will bring as much joy and love into your life as bred dogs would.

Re-think your pet’s food

Research suggests that pet food is responsible for nearly a quarter of the environmental impact of meat production in terms of land use, fossil fuels, and pesticides.

Now, we get it that you are thinking about the fact that your pet needs protein. But, if you want to be more eco-conscious to what you are feeding your pet, you can choose pet food made from meat byproducts or offal, as well as chicken and rabbit.

This will make you avoid buying products that contain red meat or fish, which can have a much higher environmental impact.

Use biodegradable bags to pick up after your pets

We all hate the part when we have to clean our pet’s waste. Yet, it is a crucial practice for a healthy ecosystem. Pet’s waste can carry disease, polluting waterways, and coastal zones, which can have a significant impact on wildlife.

So, always pick up after your pets when you walk them. However, when it comes to picking up poop, you should opt for biodegradable bags instead of single-use plastics. Choose compostable bags because they will decompose fully in a maximum of six months, saving our planet from more waste.

Leave your dog in a dog hotel when you’re out of town

Where to leave your dog when you’re out of town is a problem that most pet owners face. While others prefer to leave their pets at home while they are away, others check them in a hundepensjonat

If you want to be a sustainable pet owner, our advice is to leave your dog in a kennel. When you leave your pet at home, you must prepare the home accordingly, including leave lights and heating on. These things only impact the environment unnecessarily, especially since you are out of town.

So, better leave your dog in a kennel gardermoen until you return back home.

Use chemical-free cleaning products

Keeping your pets clean and smelling nice, plus free of ticks, is essential. However, many shampoos, conditioners, and repellents include certain chemicals that can be poison for animals. The environmental runoff and chemical pollution can impact rivers and oceans.
