The Green House

All information you need for a green house.

What are “Passive Houses”?

A house with zero thermal transfer, so there won’t be any heat loss may seem just an idea without practical application. However, such houses exist. They are known as “passive houses”.

Currently these homes are not built because they assume outputs or deviation from current standards in construction. Such a house that conserves energy is based on complex calculations and the structure is slightly different.

In a passive house, energy consumption is 70-80% lower than for a house of wood or brick.

Passive houses are those homes that provide a comfortable indoor climate both in summer as in winter, but without the need for a conventional heating source. It is a house characterized by tightness, zero thermal transfer which achieve and maintain the desired thermal balance. Experts say that in the case of such building, energy consumption is 70-80% lower than for a house built of wood or brick.

The passive house is not a normal house with insulation. Such a house is looking to reduce energy losses. There are many books written about it, and such a project is more challenging. All those working, so-called self builders as well as those dealing with plants must form a team.

There are several theories about the construction of passive houses. Thus, some experts are of the opinion that in order to the yield to be very good, such a building must be built into the slope and buried in the ground about 30%.

Architects say such construction are elevated from common materials but are based on complex calculations as insulation. As such, the reduced energy transfer with the environment and the ambient temperature is around 20-22 degrees Celsius.

Note that if for a normal house with thermal insulation is about 10 inches, for a passive house, which is 4-5 times higher. Are reduced the losses occurring through thermal bridges, those from joints in areas where pipes break the wall. Thus everything is planned in a way that the building to be tightly. Windows have three rows of glass and also are positioned only to the south to capture as much sunlight. Meanwhile, north glazed areas are looking to be very small and if possible even disappear.

The great advantage of a passive house is that reduces maintenance costs. If in a regular house, monthly average is about 400 Euros a month, for a passive house, the cost can be less than 100 Euros.
