What is an “Energy Plus” house?

As passive houses, this uses very little energy, even 10 to 12 kWh / sqm / year (an average home consumes 200-240 kWh / sqm / year), thanks to efficient insulation. But there are some other innovative features of Solbacka house, a real plus energy house. LED lights, for example, saves about 80% of the energy used by ordinary lighting. Recycling water from the shower and reduce household water consumptionby 30-50%. 16 sqm of solar panels produce hot water in the amount of 6,000 kWh /year and 12 square meters of solar photovoltaic cells can produce up to 2000 kWh /year. This means that this house may have a value of 0 at the energy bill!

Energibo, Sweden, is an example of a construction company that took very seriously this new house. They found the right partner for such a project: the city of Ronneby Swedish who proposed that future residential building to be developed on the principle of “zero carbon”. Thus, in Ronneby in 2010 have been build the first of the 17 plus energy houses, called Solbacka. Energibo objective was to create a house that meets the five key criteria: has minimum energy consumption or even a surplus, required maintenance zero, offers smart solutions and new technologies, has a high degree of safety and is organic and sustainable. The house is open to the public – those who want to can stay here for a test period.

How works the house, technically? The construction uses a control system called ECOScience, which controls the entire house. For example, fan speed is controlled based on the concentration of CO2 in the room, and pool heat recovery from waste water is installed under the garage and get 30% of wastewater used in the heat bath, shower, dishwasher and machine washing.

The system also Energibo relies on a German solution certified for foundations and frames, which minimizes heat loss through the building envelope, so we used Lindab RdBX solutions for partition walls. Since energy plus houses and passive houses are based on the outer shells very tight and well insulated, it is extremely important that the ventilation system works perfectly, so she chose a solution of Ventilation efficiency from Lindab. It begins with the outside air through a vacuum tube buried 100 m long. It provides a source of hot air in winter and cooler in summer. The air then enters through a facility which produces initial heat and from here in a battery that still heats ventilation air. It is then distributed through the ventilation duct Lindab Safe system to six rooms of the building.
